Denakil Depression

The Danakil or Dallul Depression is one of the geologically alluring places on our planet and is one of the lowest points on earth. Its undisputable lunar landscape dotted with active volcanos, sulfur-caked hot springs, vast salt basins, and fresh lava flows are all the geological wonders! Erta Ale is the most active volcano in Africa which has been in a continuous explosion for about 120 years. This naturally very hostile part of Ethiopia has been inhabited by the local Afar nomads who dwell in palm-fiber and grass-matting dome-shaped huts set up in family groups. The Danakil Depression remains the most geologically fascinating and physically challenging off-the-beaten track Ethiopia.
