Axum

Ethiopian old city once was a center of such an ancient kingdom, possesses a massive wealth of archaeological findings, and was listed as a world heritage site in 1980. Ruins of royal Palaces and Tombs, uniquely carved monolithic stelae, stone throne bases, pillars, and coins, among others, are the living testament of Axum’s great antiquity. Axum is believed to be the final resting place of the Ark of the Covenant brought from Jerusalem by the Son of Queen of Sheba and Solomon of Israel. Axum and its surrounding vicinity are home to more than 100s rock churches rich in extraordinary architectural tradition and Ethiopian Religious Culture.
