Yeha

Chronologically, Yeha was dated back to the 6th.C.BC served as the political center for the DAMAT state and it was home to a unique civilization that existed in this part of Ethiopia. Today the 12m high best preserved rectangular Great Temple of Yeha is the only surviving legacy of its glorious past. This remarkable religious center was built from well–dressed yellowish calcareous sandstones assembled without mortar. It was in the 6th C.A.D. that the Temple and the whole precinct transformed to Christian use by, one of the Nine Saints, Aba Afetse who built a church within the compound.
